Severe Packet Loss Detected in Chapter 5

In co-op mode, the game fails to load the Chapter 5 end boss, even though all missions have been completed. As soon as the co-op session starts, the message “Severe Packet Loss Detected” appears on screen. Any ideas on how to fix this and get the Chapter 5 end boss to spawn?

Thanks for the report, and sorry it sat for a couple of days.

Straight answer first: we see this one now and then and we do not have a clean fix for it. A boss that will not spawn in co-op is not always something on our side. It can be the game’s own state on the host’s machine, which is why it tends to follow the save rather than the session.

So there are two paths.

Getting you past it. We keep a pack of saves for exactly this: one from every Shrine in the game, sorted by chapter, all captured in WukongMP co-op. Take the one just before the Chapter 5 end boss and carry on from there.

The room owner uploads it through the launcher, with nobody in game at the time.

One check before you do that. If you are below SDK 0.4.1, update and run the fight once more. 0.4.0 fixed a batch of co-op boss problems: bosses dying instantly before the fight started, HP scaling breaking on reconnect, and monster ownership drifting between players. 0.4.1, out on 10 September, fixed a cutscene soft-lock on boss defeat. Worth ruling out before you replace your save.

On the packet loss message: that is the client telling you the connection to the session is bad. It will not stop a boss from spawning by itself, but heavy loss right as you move into an arena can leave the fight in a state where nothing loads, so the two may well be connected here.

If you are up for helping us chase it properly:

  • Launcher and SDK version
  • Game version and store (Steam, Epic, HeyBox)
  • Which server, ours or self-hosted, and which region
  • Does the packet loss message show for both players or only you
  • Every time, or sometimes
  • Your client log

I’d suggest hopping onto our Discord server and report it as a bug in our #en-bugreports section

On the packet loss message. That one is worth chasing on its own, because if it is real then nothing else you do will hold. What usually turns out to be behind it, roughly in the order we see it:

  • The host on wifi. Get the host onto a cable if there is any way to do it. This is the single most common cause by a distance.
  • A room hosted far from where the players actually are. Pick a region close to the host, not close to the majority.
  • Background traffic on the host machine: cloud sync, a game updating in another launcher, a stream running. Close it and try again.
  • If you are playing from mainland China, use one of the booster services we work with (UU, Qiyou, HeyBox). If you are outside China, do the opposite and turn any VPN off. They add loss more often than they remove it.
  • Drop to two players and see if the message goes away. If it does, and it comes back at four, tell us that. It is a genuinely useful detail and most people never test it.

If the message is gone and the boss still will not spawn, then it was never the connection and the save is the thing that is stuck. If the message stays no matter what, fix that first, because a fresh save will break in the same place.
